By Eaglesafc.com ON A GREAT day for football, the Toronto Eagles have once again joined the winners circle with a comprehensive victory over the Guelph Gargoyles. The Eagles, coming off a disappointing lost a few weeks back, were in control for the whole game finishing with a 79 point victory. From the first bounce the Eagles were solid around the ground chasing hard and creating space when needed. A solid defence and multiple attacks into the forward fifty were highlights, but the Eagles let themselves down with some inaccurate kicking in front of goals. The Gargoyles, who started strong, once again found it hard to keep up with a stronger Eagles side. Their lack of movement around the field and some poor decision making, hinder their game from the beginning. The first quarter saw the Eagles finished with 22 points and Guelph unable to score a major. The Gargoyles struggled to get the football into their attacking half as the Eagles defence held firm, providing little opportunity for Guelph’s forwards to score. The second quarter saw the game get a little sloppy, as both side struggled to dispose of the football. Guelph were able to score their first goal for the game while the Eagles wasted opportunities at their end, finishing the quarter with a disappointing two goals and five point. Coach Aaron Falcioni, happy with the victory, was a little concerned with his sides inaccuracy in front of goal. "We played the game at a decent standard but we need to make sure we take our opportunities when inside our fifty" Falcioni stated. “To score twenty one points is disappointing, especially when most of those were makeable.” The third quarter saw an improvement from the Eagles as they started to take control of the game. Hard running and smart ball movement saw the Eagles have most of the possession for the quarter, unfortunately their accuracy in front of goal was none existent and once again they finished with two goals and five points. “I’m not sure what happened, but we just couldn’t put the footy through the goal posts today” stated Eagle forward Frank Luisser “With the amount of scoring shots we had today, the score should have been a lot more damaging.” The final quarter saw the Eagles add another five goals, but unfortunately another seven points as well. The highlight of the quarter though, was that they manage to keep Guelph scoreless. Troy Marsh had another great game running hard and controlling the midfield. "Yeah I felt good out there today" stated Marsh "I feel like this is definitely one of my better years of footy." Also the Eagles back line performed well again with Bachinski, Dimacakos, Grey and Nord having solid performances. Next weekend the Eagles will battle the Central Blues in what should be a fantastic game of football.
