By Eaglesafc.com THE TORONTO EAGLES have finished the 2009 OAFL season in style, showcasing an excellent display of football with a 50 point demolition of the Hamilton Wildcats. From the first whistle both teams came to play, proving why this was to be the game of the round. Hard tackles, big hits and desire to win were the order of the day as both sides came out firing. “What a great way to finish the season and set ourselves up for finals, we played a good side today” stated Eagles coach Aaron Falcioni. "Now we just have to keep the form going.. The team will be working hard on the week off and preparing for the semi finals in a weeks time." The Wildcats, who have had a great year, came into the game extremely confident. Though it would be fair to say, they were never really able to match the Eagles. The first quarter was a tight tussle as both teams wrestled for control of the game. The Eagles though were able to take a handy thirteen point lead into the first break, after some excellent play around the midfield. "That was one of the best quarters we've played against decent opposition” stated Eagle Sean Kennedy. "We were solid in the backline and the midfielder's and forwards had control around the field." The second was a little closer than the score would suggest, as both teams came out just as hard as the first. With the action flowing up and down the field it was a very even quarter, as both teams scored three goals. "I think we had a little lapse out there in the second quarter" commented backman Oliver Hayward. "They seemed to work a little harder than us to get back in the game." The third quarter saw the Eagles retain control of the match, dominating the midfield and kicking five goals to one. The Wildcats seemed to lose confidence in their ability, holding their head down after the quarter. The Eagles once again played some amazing football in the fourth quarter, with their star players really taking control. They were able to kick another three goals to end the match and finish with a fifty point victory. "This is a great way for the team to end the regular season and head into the finals" stated midfielder Salvatore Capoferri. "The Wildcats have been the big improvers this season, playing good footy.. So I think this showed the rest of the league that we mean business come finals.” Troy Marsh once again played some amazing football all around the ground, demonstrating why he's the best in the league at the moment. Marsh once again dominated play, racking up thirty plus possession and ended the game with four goals. The Eagles midfield was also exceptional. Throughout the day they won the ball out of the middle and provided plenty of attack into their forward fifty. The backline was also very solid. Lead by Dimacakos and Bachinski, who where playing their usual top shelf football, they were able to contain the Wildcats forwards. The Eagles will now have a week off for the first week of the finals. Make sure you head to Humber North on the Sunday 27th of September, for their semi finals match.
